The Laservue Advantage

LaserVue surgeons bring the most extensive academic training and years of experience to the custom LASIK patients at our offices in San Francisco, San Jose, South Bay, Oakland East Bay and Santa Rosa.

Jay Bansal, MD and Swati Singh, MD are Board-Certified Ophthalmologists with additional sub-specialty fellowship training in laser vision correction (Refractive Surgery) and have each performed many thousands of LASIK procedures. Dr. Bansal and Dr. Singh have both been named VISX Star Surgeons – awarded to the top 100 laser vision specialists by VISX Inc. and have taught the latest techniques in refractive surgery to other eye surgeons. A frequently requested surgical nomogram was developed at LaserVue as well as several LASIK surgical instruments. Despite the best education, there is no substitute for experience and individualized care. Each laser eye surgeon at LaserVue will be happy to answer your specific questions personally. Please ask us!

Attention to Detail:

There are some subtle clues to the quality of care and the attention to detail of a laser eye surgery center. For example, studies have long shown that contact lenses can change the shape of the cornea. LaserVue doctors suggest keeping soft lenses out for three to seven days and gas permeable lenses out for three to four weeks. Keeping lenses out for a shorter time may sound more convenient, but accuracy may suffer.

LaserVue Eye Center surgeons monitor their results very closely and then alter surgical planning based on past outcomes and have thus developed a surgical nomogram frequently requested by other surgeons. The patient's actual prescription is not entered into the laser's computer, but an adjusted prescription is used based on our tested surgical nomogram.
Another extremely important clue to quality care is how carefully the laser eye surgeon evaluates your eyes prior to surgery. Some laser centers and surgeons with organized networks of referring Optometrists use a system where the surgeon NEVER sees the patient preoperatively and the laser center/surgeon pays the referring optometrist. Skillful surgery is only just one of the responsibilities of the surgeon. Look for a laser eye surgeon that will examine you before surgery, evaluate the findings, discuss with you the plan of action for your particular case and answer all of your questions to your satisfaction. Other technicians and doctors may be involved in your care as well, but there is no substitute for the in depth knowledge and experience of the surgeon for your care.

Confidence:

We want you to watch our laser eye surgeons operate via a closed-circuit monitor, ask questions, and talk to our previous laser eye surgery patients.

Enhancement Rate:

It's nice that LASIK can be repeated if there is a significant prescription left behind that causes some blurred vision, but it is also nice if a laser eye surgeon has at least an average enhancement rate (national average about 8 -10%) or better. Ask us for the enhancement rate of our laser eye surgeons (the percent of time the LASIK surgery needs to be repeated to eliminate a lingering significant prescription).

LASIK surgery is an extremely safe procedure when performed by a well-trained and skilled LASIK surgeon. The accuracy of LASIK is also astoundingly excellent. What you want to look for is a masterful surgical team that will make your LASIK experience seem like a few effortless minutes resulting in clear vision. Many may claim that they are as such, but now you have the tools to better research who actually is. So find a great LASIK surgeon and facility, relax and enjoy your LASIK experience!

Important Intangibles:
  • At LaserVue, you'll quickly learn to appreciate the friendliness and warmth of our staff.
  • The cozy and relaxing environment (especially during surgery) at LaserVue is quite comforting. Very high tech? Yes. Cold and impersonal? No.
  • At LaserVue, we believe that good patient education minimizes unrealistic goals and fears. During the preoperative exam we will answer all of your questions to your satisfaction.
  • At LaserVue Eye Center, there will be no confusion as to who will provide your treatment and care.
Our goal is not to perform the most laser vision correction procedures. Our doctors are very careful in deciding which potential patients are good candidates for laser vision correction, and they educate each patient about the expected outcome and inherent risks associated with laser vision correction.
